2006 Audi Cabrio. The gear selector is locked. The car starts but the shifter will not unlock to allow the vehicle to go into gear. I have accessed the mechanism to see if the release lever is working. It seems to be working fine but the lever will not move. When brake pressure is applied, the solinoid pushes a white plastic lever upward. I did have a dead battery. The door was opened with the key, the battery was recharged and the alarm started after the battery charge. I believe the problem my be related to the alarm. Any suggestions???

Try locking and unlocking the car with the remote. That may reset the alarm.
