Just talked to an experienced Audi manager who really knew her Audi tech. As you may know, I've been disappointed with my 2003 A4 Cab's suspension (floaty, nausea-inducing see-sawing). She explained that there was a reason for that, and goes as follows:
- The 2002 B6 received complaints that the suspension was a too stiff. So Audi changed the settings for the next model year.
- For 2003, Audi went too far in their response. They got complaints that the suspension was too soft and wobbly (hence my car).
- For 2004, Audi finally got it right, accomplishing a firm yet comfortable ride for both stock and sport suspensions.
So for those who have 2004 A4s, congrats. For those who have '02 or '03 models, I was told there is no real way to upgrade to '04 factory suspension, so aftermarket is your only choice. This is problematic since aftermarket suspensions yield rough rides, which don't bode well for a convertible.

I've started on a coilover install. The front is done. Significant difference. Much tighter, ride is still good. I hope to finish the rears this weekend.

Hated my 03 TDI Cabriolet, switched to 1.8Tq, noticed a huge difference and thought it was the combination of lighter engine and more rearward transmission weight. But sounds as if the damping is a lot more sorted out, which makes sense as other people switched to replacement cars without quattro and also noticed big improvements...
