Default new audi service policy...

So, I'm reading Motor Trend this month and they say they are adding the A3 to their long term..

They slip into this at the end that after the 2007 model year that Audi WONT be offering free scheduled maintence... at least not for 4/50

what are they thinking?

does anyone know details?

obviously, we're all covered but if I ever want to buy another Audi, this doesnt make me want to (as much)

Default Full and scheduled maintenance will be a $550 option on all 2007 Audi models

What is $550 when spending $40K or more $30K at the very least) on a vehicle, right?

Default downward slide..

Uh, exactly. What is $550 to AUDI when WE are spending MINIMUM of $38k on something?

You've proven MY point for me.

Audi needs to suck it up or risk losing people..

I'm sure the bean counters have already "factored in" the people who won't buy based on this and determined it will keep sales OK while raising more money...

Makes a VW seem better... hmmmm.. EOS in '08 is looking like a real possibility.

At this point service is getting to be the only differenciator between the two brands..

Default Upside..

There has been a lot of talk about people who don't want to be locked into the dealer for "day to day" service due to the 'audi advantage program'.

I got this from an AoA official at a show about 2 years ago. With the "pay for service package(s)" customers have choice no only of which level of service they want but if they even want it at all.

I for one can state that once my 50K was up, the reliability of the car (allroad) vastly improved. I got my 80K service an a great indy for less than what the dealer would want, I got brakes where I wanted at a significat savings and in all cases, I did not have to go back because something needed adjustment or there was a loose fitting, etc. And I like my dealer and the staff...just not what they have to charge to brake even.

IMO..having a choice of dealer pre paid services or not and saving $$ in the process give us each what we want or need.

Default I priced out the cost of parts for those services for all models some time ago

I was bored at work okay.

Basically the only car that comes close to being a toss up was a manual A3 or A4... if you add the DSG gearbox the A3 was more expensive to maintain than the A4.

Essentially the $550 is a bargain for what you get.

On some models the $550 is less than the parts cost alone... no labor factored in.
