Hi, We are looking at a used A4 cvt with about 49k miles on it. It seems like an excellent deal around 13k or so. We will be using this for our business sales calls and meetings for me and driven some on the weekends. How reliable would you say the car is, is there a lot of service issues, cannot really afford to have the car in the shop a lot.

I have heard a lot of bad things about the early '03 cars. If you cannot afford to have a car in the shop a lot, you need a car with a full warranty, which an '03 will not have. In general, if you don't want to be servicing a car frequently, a German car is not going to make you happy. Most German cars are more performance-oriented, and as such will require somewhat frequent preventative maintenance, and will consume normal wear items faster than an economy car. This is not "poor reliability," just the nature of higher performance machinery. The more you ask of any machine, the more it will ask of you. Pretty symbiotic relationship.
