trunk wont close

trunk wont close
came home and opened the trunk from inside the car to get grocery's out ,a friend got in the car and wanted to see the top go down,so i tried to open the top twice forgetting this cant be done if the trunk is open.now the trunk will not close.anyone know how to fix?

latch
very possible the trunk latch has failed, very common parts failure on these cars.
while the trunk is open you can try closing the latch with a screwdriver or pen to see if it stays closed.
