Odd that Audi hasn't been making a big deal about the reg change since it would appear to be ideally situated to unlock matrix lighting... although perhaps it's still working on some of the details, and the rollout plan?
A bit newer to the game here - what exactly is the reg change you’re referring to? I’d be curious to learn more.
More details in the NYT articles, but I included an enthusiast webzine in case you don't have a subscription.
This appears to be the official word from Audi on activation: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/aud...ation-3035229/
... although you can skip clicking on the link and just read the "disappointing" part of the url, since it's pretty much just a "beats us" answer from Audi as to when this feature can be officially activated by dealers.

very helpful. Thanks! So the TL;DR: 2022 Prestige Allroads have this functionality but it is not turned on [yet]?
this technology seems incredible and hopefully usable soon

That's my impression of the situation.
This A7 thread: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a7-...tting-3031977/
... provides a good summary of the Q8 discussions (including the uncertainty).

For driving mainly in the city and on wide-open interstates, eh, probably no big deal.
But for windy secondary highways in New England, and especially driving entirely in the dark in the winter for "dawn patrol" "skinning" at this one local ski area, wow, that feature would be amazing!
Finally bit the bullet and got some roof rails. In another thread someone suggested the hardware from Pawauto.com Their stuff is cheap so I decided to give it a try. The rails were $160ish and the Bike attachment $175. All up $350 for a complete system is a good deal.
Couple of notes. The system ships directly from Europe. It's poorly packaged, and there were loose nuts and bolts inside the box. The instructions are in Russian or polish or some Slavic language with tons of consonants of backwards r's and I could not understand them. The images are even worse than Ikea's. Luckly, they do have a couple of videos on YouTube.
First off, the rails are fine. Not the best quality but good for the price. I was a bit annoyed after I first mounted it that the locking nuts are bright yellow and clearly visible. So dismounted everything and I rattled them black.

Yes! You can clear the sunroof but ONLY if you mount them in a very specific area. If you mount them incorrectly you will scratch the glass. So test carefully or look at my pics for placement . The sunroof gets paper thin close to hitting the bars. Same with the rear. Make sure you space them far back so you don't hit them. I don't belive you can find a closer flush fitment. I looked at Yakima, Thule, and their aeroblade options and some sit substantially higher.
Yes it clears it! Barely.
Rear
Also note the direction of the bars to minimize wind noise. They are a bit on the louder side at high speeds even for a car as quiet as the AR. I might consider a wind deflector.
Next the bike accessory is fine. But once again if you use this you will lose the sunroof functionality. the U bolts to mount these will not give you the sunroof clearance. I may test it a bit more, but I don't believe they will clear. It's OK since I will not be using the bike rack except for some trips and it's relatively easy to dismount. Hope this helps others.
Excellent choice of bike for the test mount!
But you really have to add some pink bar end tassles to complete the look. Or at least our daughter really loved them.

Lol yes we lost the tassels a while back! I need to find some replacement options.
I kinda wish my daughter would want to paint her bike blue to match my AR's color but that's going to be a very tough sell!
^ A bike would look great with Firmament Blue! Come to think of it, I think Manhattan Gray might closely match the color of one of my bikes. I'll report back in about a year when "my" (entirely theoretical at this point) Allroad finally arrives.
[...] oooooh Jonathan that A6 by you has night vision....
Yes, a rare selection, but if it provides even only a slight reduction in the possibility of a wildlife collision on rural New England highways, then worth it!
