Is that even possible? I guess so. But the fact that there is a TSB in place for this makes me think either the original grill wasn't appropriate in the first place or Audi recognizes there is an engineering problem somewhere. I'm calling back today and asking for this to be looked at. Here's the breakdown of what I had to pay last night:

1 8K0-145-804-E - Intercooler radiator - $266.37
1 8K0-820-746-C - Grill - $149.50
9 8K0-867-646 - Clip - $72.45
1 G-013-A8J-1G - Coolant - $30.41
Labor $630
A/C System Evac and Re-charge $180
Total : $1,328.73
I looked up these parts on audionlineparts.com and found the following:
Intercooler radiator MSRP $204.90 Online price $159.82
Intercooler grill MSRP $115.00 Online price $89.70
Grill clip MSRP $3.50 Online price $2.73

There is 50% total markup based just on the MSRP price for these parts. I understand the dealers generally make their profit thru service but I think this is a bit over the top on their prices. The clip price alone is a factor of about 21 times the MSRP price.

Hope they did a good job and you will not have any future puncture problems.

Not if they used 9 clips. Still a little more than double though.

Just went through this not to long ago myself. Audi covered it for me. I have the new style intercooler with the guard on it now.

So quick update on this. I just received a call from Audi saying sorry but we aren't paying for it. They concluded that because the radiator was hit by a rock, this is an "external factor" and thus not covered by warranty. They went as far as to say that while they know this is a design flaw and now they offer a grill to cover the radiator, this grill is 100% OPTIONAL and still not their responsibility. I argued that this is all cool but as a customer I had zero knowledge this was a risk or else I would have bought the grill for $100 instead of spending $1,350 for the fix. She just got silent and apologized one last time.

I love the car but this REALLY leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I come from owning Bimmers for 10+ years and never have I run into crappy customer service like this... just sayin'

Audi is like this with everything. They're so damn cheap and their customer service leaves a TON to be desired. They aren't a proper luxury brand. Audi and their dealers treat you like you drive a $25k Chevy instead of a $60k luxury sedan.

Their dealers and executives need to stop learning from Volkswagen and start learning from Bentley.

how come some people can get it covered and others can't? is it a dealer vs dealer thing? i imagine the dealer is reaching to to AofA on all cases. I don't understand how it can be "yes" in some cases and "no" in others.

I left this as my last resort argument with them and when asked this question they only shrugged and said maybe different elements took place with those other people to have their repairs be covered and not yours. Clearly inconsistent and sub-standard customer service. I bet it probably had to do with timing. Eventually someone said "ok, no more coverage for blown radiators... from now on we make the customers pay for their cover grill and we play stupid".

My dealer here in Memphis checked with Audi about providing and installing the protection Grill. Audi said No. The dealer called me and said they would do it on their own--customer good will. And this is not even the dealer I bought the car from.
