Well, me and the wife spent from Thursday to Monday traveling from Houston TX to Ruidoso NM and back! This is my impressions:
-We don't need no stinking autobahn, when we have west Texas and I-10: West of San Antonio, you can drive 85 - 100 mph for a few hours at a time (Yes, I know the speed limit is only 80, but having a kind eye for brake lights works just as good as a radar detector)
-The 130 mph limited top speed is true! Doing 130 at 3800 rpm and pedal to the metal, it will not go 1 mile over. However, probably a safe limit for the car specially in west Texas where cross-winds can be a motor scooter! and you start feeling a bit of lift in the front end. (For the bleeding hearts: There was not a single car around me for about 3 miles and I was using the middle of the lanes to be as safe as possible!)
-Seats are awesome, 12 hrs straight and butt was fine!
-Once we got into the mountains west of Roswell, NM, and started climbing from 3500 FT to 7,000 FT on a twisty but fast road and avg. speed probably 75-80 mph; After arriving, I could feel heat coming through the foot-well, seems like the transmission/Quattro was working it's magic, but gave me a bit of concern. (ambient temp was 36F) How would it react in summer time....
-Computer avg. fuel consumption is about 2 - 3 mpg optimistic. Averaged 25 - 28 mpg in real life, while computer was estimating 27 - 31 mpg. Not complaining, average speeds were high and we were at higher altitudes and using crummy 90 octane fuel with ethanol.
-Overall, great trip and would not hesitate to recommend the car to anyone. I have had the car for exactly 1 yr and now is due for service!!
Well just wanted to share my impressions and if you are looking at getting an A6, use this comments in your decision process.
