Default 2.0 Quattro

In know when the 2.0 T A6 came to the US many A6 folks hated it. Now that we have the experience of a few months of the A6 with the 2.0 and Quattro is there an acceptance of this model as a "legitimate" A6? Just wondering, since I find it appealing and I did notice a sense of disdain early on.

I don't know if "hated" is the right word but it certainly wasn't the gold medal winner. It seemed that a) the 2.0 wasn't offered with Quattro b) it originally only had a CVT and C) was near impossible to find at first that made it seem like it was the red headed step child.

Had the 2.0 Quattro been available in 2012, I would have definitely considered it. I live on an island and really have no need for the 3.0, and 18-20 mpg around here is ok but it could be better. I do like the 8 speed and need Quattro with the normally wet roads around here.

That said, the TDI in the A6 (US spec) will be in my garage as soon as it's available.

I've had my 2.0 CVT now for a few months and I've been very happy with it. I live in Northern CA and commute 60 miles a day. I've been getting around 31mpg and feel the car is plenty fast enough for my needs. On a side note I was surprised to see that during a trip back from Yosemite the car was only running right at 2K rpm when I was cruising at 85mph (the CVT appears to have the equivalent of 8 gears). Engine/transmission combos are a matter of needs and taste ultimately.

I have a 2.0T FWD CVT and I love it. It is perfect for cruising. Especially since I'm in Florida and the roads are all flat and straight. No snow so I don't need or want the extra weight of quattro. We do get some very heavy tropical storms but I'm always light on the accelerator anyway so I'm still not spinning the tires or anything. It's not like I absolutely must have quattro to avoid getting stuck... in the rain... Bald tires are more likely the culprit if that happens, not the drivetrain.

The payback is the CVT gets great mileage, mid-20 mpg around town and always silky smooth. I can get 30 mpg city with some hypermiling techniques. Highway has been lower than the rating though at 30 mpg. Yes the CVT keeps the revs very low, usually around 1,600 rpm with my driving style, even at 75 mph.

Probably not the first to say this but it's all a matter of personal taste. I purposely drove the 2.0t first to see if it met my needs, before taking out a 3.0. I was coming from a 2001 2.8L A4 and the 2.0t felt much quicker and agile to me than my old car. I have a short commute and do almost all of my driving just around town so I couldn't justify the 3.0 for myself (although it was a blast to drive). My recommendation - drive em both, think about what kind of driving you're going to do, and decide if the 2.0t is going to work for you. I love mine.

Another 2012 2.0T w/ CVT here (19" sports pkg).

I am very happy with my vehicle. CVT is very smooth and if I need extra pep I use sport mode, which mimics an 8-speed anyway and makes it very responsive.

I am not getting optimal gas mileage around town since my commute is around 4.5 miles so my mileage is horrible (~ 17-18.5 MPG). I assume is because the engine does not even have a chance to warm up before I reach my destination. On the highway, I consistently get about 28 @ 85 MPH on long trips. If I baby it and stick to 70 I can definitely get 30 or more.

That being said. I only have 7700 miles (got the car in Feb) on it and it seems to slowly be getting better. Perhaps it is still not fully broken in. Curious to see what happens once I get to 10 or 15k miles.

The 2.0T A6 Quattro is a pretty impressive car. I thought about getting the 2.0T P Plus with all the options.

But I really wanted the ventilated seats, dual zone climate and other goodies you can only get on a 3.0T.
