What does the oil display on the MMI represent - all the oil in the pan or a percentage of one quart low?

Audi part number for the dipstick is 06E115611H. This apparently fits a number of engines over a span of years. Dealer says they can get it so I'll see. ECSTuning is backordered until late December, but now has the price at $17 plus shipping.

I have not had to add any fuel. For me a sign of burning more oil thank usual is the residue on the exhaust tips. I can say mine are still looking good. It could be that I clean my car once a week, but I should still experience heavy build it, and I have yet to to have that happen. (The only build up, I'm getting is that freaking brake dust lol)

I didn't know about the tip stick replacement so I'll try that once I get my oil changed. However I must say its not different than any of my previous cars that had no oil consumption issues.
wow! almost 5k miles and you haven't added any fuel? at that rate, you may have to do a fuel change at 15k to avoid gum and varnish build up.

Agree. I had an '09 A4 2.0T and had to top off maybe 2x between each of the recommended 10k mile service intervals (after the initial 5k service). Now have an '10 A6 3.0T with 21k miles and have only had to top oil off once (maybe 1/2 qt) since my 15k service. BTW, the later model C6's with the 3.0T came with dipsticks...apparently this changed w/ the C7.

Thanks anyway for the link.

I think it displays a max and min level, so if you are down to min, you need to add oil. With 1000 miles mine is pegged on max.

My 2010 A5 only needed 1 quart over a 25,000 mile period. I have heard that the S4 (3.0T) eats some oil, but nothing excessive. I went to Auto Zone, spent $8 for the exact same oil the dealer puts in (I called to verify). However if you are close to your dealer, they should fill it for you for free. At least my dealer offered that as an option.

I called the dealer to confirm and the MMI display shows the oil level for the "final" quart. So when it's at the add level, that means add exactly one quart of oil or half way down on the display means your low 1/2 quart. But per my previous posts, only the approved oil should be added.

Actually, I have the 2011 A6 3.0T with 8800 miles on it and the low oil light has come on twice already. I'm certainly not used to that kind of oil consumption since I had a 2008 A6 4.2 and oil changes were only done on the 15K mile service levels. I asked the service rep at my local dealer and they said to expect about a quarter of the oil to be burned off every 1200 miles with this engine. I was a little shocked. Can anyone else confirm?
