Summary

VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL 2012 AUDI A6 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 8, 2011, THROUGH MAY 26, 2011. DUE TO A PROBLEM IN THE STITCHING PROCESS OF THE CURTAIN AIR BAG, THE SEAM OF THE AIR BAG MAY NOT BE STITCHED PROPERLY.

Consequence

IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE HEAD CURTAIN AIR BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROPERLY PROTECT AN OCCUPANT, INCREASING THE RISK OF AN INJURY.

Remedy

VOLKSWAGEN WILL NOTIFY ALL OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE LEFT AND/OR RIGHT CURTAIN AIR BAG FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JANUARY 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987.

I received my notice and the dealer just got in the new bags. I take mine in the 6th for the retrofit. Will advise on outcome. Evidently there were not many involved in this, how lucky am I

Just picked up the car from having the air bags replaced to the tune of $1226 bill to Audi. Could not tell anything on the car had been touched, they did an excellent job, although it took 6 hours.

Would hate to see the bill for replacing all the air bags after a wreck.

Did they do it in 1 day or did it take 2? Did you get a loaner?

The recall notice says 3 hours, but I'm guessing between getting all the trim in and out, along with playing around air bags, that is somewhat optimistic. I told them to take all the time they needed, I wanted it done correctly, not fast.

They did it in one day, I dropped the car off at 7:30 and picked it up around 2. I didn't ask for a loaner, they have a shuttle service and I have other vehicles.
