At about a $2400 premium for the TDI I calculate about a five year break even point with the TFSI model, disregarding any other factors like mx, diesel price parity with premium gas, residual value, etc. I am contemplating the TDI A6. It would be an autobahn machine if only we had an autobahn in Texas. Closest is Interstate 10 in west Texas where the speed limit is 85 and the San Antonio-Austin toll road with similar speed limit.

I think the pricing is really disappointing! I was looking forward to buying one of these A6 diesels, but will not be paying more than the 3.0 gas engine. I was thinking the diesel would be priced in the middle of the 2.0 and 3.0 models.

As much as I would love the improved gas mileage, it is not worth the large premium over the 2.0 engine and especially the more powerful 3.0 engine. Maybe I will change my mind, but doubt it.
