Hope to get this order finalized this week and then the wait....
Is the dealer doc fee standard among audi dealerships around the country?

Dealer doc fees are normal, but there is a maximum charge they can charge you state by state. These are generally pure profit for the dealership, but during your negotiation process make sure you include this in the price of the total vehicle.

Ask for the total out the door price, everything except destination and registration fees.

See the link below for the maximums allowed by each state for doc fees.

Useful link. Interesting that only 10 states have a limit on "doc fees". In the other 40 states there's no regulation and will be what the market (or unsuspecting consumer) will bear. Also, watch out for "Prep" fees which the chart doesn't address. Some dealers will just roll a prep fee, doc fee and registration fee into a single amount on the sales order.

The only way to compare same-equipped car dealer offers is to be sure you have all the items disclosed, including your trade if any, and look at the out-the-door prices. Then, if not paying cash, interest rates or lease money factors come next. Almost like buying a house.

I think it is regional and not tied to a brand, almost every car dealer in ATL area has a "dealer doc fee" of $600-$800. Easy way for them to pad profit. That is why I make sure to point that out when I start negotiating. Some dealers are flexible, some are not. But I now have 3 dealers fighting for my order.
