Oh boy. I am just about to close on a low mileage 2013 A6 that is half way across the country. I am not going to drive this car before I buy it, so this steering thread has me freaked out a little. It seems it is widespread and without any real pattern on packages, is that fair?
Some of you here will just be pleased I finally found a car to buy, and I am really excited about it, but now I am worried what I am getting even though it is a CPO.

the latest and current 2013 steering rack came out in Jan. 2013, so yes there may have been a mod done a few months ago and this is why some 2013 owners may have the problems and others won't. The latest parts list for 2014 models indicates that this same Jan. 2013 rack is being used.

On the issue of the problem steering, it really looks like a software issue. Search the web carefully and you will find a post were creative individuals disabled a portion of the steering code settings using a VAGCOM and the problem went away. I read many years ago where Audi/VW were developing the electric assist steering and in doing so were going to also use it to help individuals in a slide/skid, etc situation get out it easier by nudging the steering wheel in the wrong direction that would force the driver by human reaction to respond with steering wheel input in the other correct direction. This auto correct now seems to be overly sensitive in any driving coditions from cross winds to rutted roads. I'm sure the Audi engineers can eliminate this autocorrection feature in 1 minute to make drivers happy, but they also probably want to keep this safety feature and looking for some middle of the road compromise.

Bob, If it was only a software adjustment that could be corrected in one minute, I'm sure someone would would have reported a fix by now after several months of Audi recognizing the complaints. It could very well be something more than just a simple software fix. My service manager is still waiting for something to come down from AOA. Thankfully, so far at 11K miles, my steering issue is very mild in comparison to some other folks.

It sounds like it is a mechanical and software issue.
snagitseven, which rack does your 2013 have?
Does anyone with the newer steering rack have any issues?

I have no clue - I had one of the very first 2013 A6's. Wasn't even aware there was a "new" steering rack, if indeed, one really exists. If this is a fact, what is the documentation, different part numbers, etc.? What is the source?
