That's the size of the HDD in the MMI 3G+ system, but you can't utilize that entire size. Most of it is for the MMI operating system and navigation system. Only 10gbs for music and a little more for user data like phonebook and directory data.

I have a 1GB USB drive connected through the AMI. No need to worry about disk space!

Sorry, that should be 1TB obviously.

If I had a spare 1TB, I would probably be all of it, but I think it's a little excessive for music. It only plays music right?

Yes, exactly right! It's one of those little USB-powered 2.5" drives, fits perfectly in the armrest. No installation required and easy to bring inside to add new media. Still trying to get video to work, only music for now.

Here are a couple of pics of the "Audi MMI Navigation+" manual (Pg 21 bottom right) that show the specs for the Jukebox

I've got a question about using a hard drive in my A6. I'm also using a USB-powered 2.5in Western Digital 640Gb hard drive. My question is: when the car is shut down, does the hard drive power down as well? Is there a possibility that it will continue to leach power from the battery?

I tried testing it by shutting down the car and locking it. When I got back in, the light on the hard drive was still on. Is this just because some of the subsystems power on when you enter the vehicle? And if the hard drive truly remains powered on, do you think the power drain would be significant enough to be concerned about over long periods?

--And an additional FYI, I've also not found a video format that will play in the MMI.

Quick Reply: 40 gb hard drive
