A6 purchase: Your opinions

I permanently disabled the auto off "feature" within the first week of getting the car and never looked back.
To the OP sorry to hear you had all those problems but I have to say I agree with snagits assessment in the fact that the only real issue seems to be the auto off function. Get it permanently turned off and you might actually be happy with the car!

On both my '14 A6 and '16 S6 the auto start/stop stays off but it seems like it's different for (some?) of the '16 2.0 or 3.0s. My advice to OP is to keep it off until you bring it in.

Are you sure about that? While I don't have it engaged very often, I have never experienced what you describe. I would think if it did turn off the engine while the car was still moving, the power steering and brakes would be disabled.

In 2016+ models, yes. And it only applies to the 3.0t. The 2.0t and S6 wait until a full stop is achieved.

The steering may remain the same since it is electrical and the circuits to the engine are energized. IDK how the brakes get power but I don't remember seeing a vacuum brake booster on the firewall.

I absolutely hate the Auto Stop/Start feature.
In stop and go traffic, engine shut off, steering is disabled. Off, and on, and off, and on...and so forth. This is too damn frustrating.
This feature is making the driving experience worse, and I don't care how much MPG it saves. I just wish I can disable this feature permanently.

Ok Folks,
I have been lurking for a while and test driving a bunch of cars. I have settled on a 2016 or 17 A6 and am in the final states of my purchase but need some help.
I was at the dealer today and they offered me a 2016 NEW (50 miles) car for approximately $12k off MSRP. Its a $62k MSRP car for $50k. I have looked at a bunch of CPO cars in the $46-48k range (10-12k miles) and I am thinking a new car at $50k is a pretty good deal. Agreed that the CPO car may have a year or 18 month more warranty but a new car has low miles.
Any help deciding would be very much welcomed. East coast locations and love the color and options of NEW car.
