Can anyone tell me what the requirements and procedures are for adding an heated steering wheel ('used' from an '06 A8) to my '06 A6 Avant? Can the existing module be coded to accept the new wheel? Is the column wired for an HSW even if not included in the original order for the car?
Thanks,
Kurt

Can we use an A8 wheel on the C7 A6? I like my 4 spoke wheel, but I'd love to have the shift paddles. Looks like the A8s wheel is identical to the regular 4 spoke A6 one except it has the paddles.

Just for kicks I asked my dealer service mgr. how much to replace original steering wheel with one that had paddle shifters and he guesstimated about $3000. I read somewhere the wheel itself was about $1400 though.

The A8 ones been selling on eBay for under $200. The airbag is the same and doesn't have to be replaced. Should be about 2 hours labor to swap wheels. The only question is if the paddles will work afterwards. Is the clockspring prewired? I have no idea. If you want to use the 3 spoke A6 sport wheel, then you need a new airbag and the price skyrockets.

I think you need Vag-com to make the paddles work. I know on the C5 forum people were doing it and I almost bit if it wasn't for the fact that I upgraded. They added a paddle equipped wheel and vag'd the codes in there. Do a search, but I imagine our cars have it, so the coding should be even easier.

Then all you'd need to know are the VAG codes. I really do miss the paddles, I got used to them on my last A6.
That said, if you go to ebay, all I was able to see was the $1200 oem version I saw a few months ago.

This guy got it for less than $159. He stole it from me. I offered $100 on it, due to the high shipping, and the seller sold it to him for a little more.
