Default Anyone done an extensive 2016 vs 2012-2015 comparison?

My 2012 (Prestige 3.0T) lease expired at the end of last year and I bought the car. Only 35,000 miles, and did not want to lease a 2015 as it is almost the same. Question is how different is the 2016? I wonder if you can even feel the extra HP in the new 3.0 T? Among other things it has always been rumored that the older 3.0T HP is a good bit higher than specified. Does MMI work materially faster/better with latest hardware upgrades and 4G LTE? Any handling differences, etc.

It is a great question. A few months ago prior to purchasing my car, I asked the dealership what were the distinctions between the 2012 and 2014 3.0T A6. Verbatim he told me " there really are none of consequence the new car is essentially the same as the 2012" Which begged the question, why would anyone purchase a new car ( unless the buyer is really invested in the idea of being the first owner) IMO logic says let someone else eat the depreciation and then pick up a gently used one that is essentially identical to the latest version.

I'd almost say, its better to wait for a model revamp, which can't be far off now. They typically come out with a major uplift every 4-5, years right? By that count, next year or so might be the year. Have there been any rumors about that?

My dealer said they learned in a January training that the new body style would debut for the 2018 models; debuting in 2017.

Sounds about right. Mid-life refreshes like the MY2016 usually are good for 2 model years (2016/2017)

A6

C5 1997-2004 7 yrs
C6 2004-2011 7 yrs
C7 2011- 2018 est 7 yrs
C8 avail in 2017 as MY2018

Recent reports in the European press suggest that the launch of the new A8 has been delayed due to issues around the electronics (anticipate they will be moving to some of the systems running 48v rather 12v) The new A4 is also running late as it was originally going to be shown at the Geneva show in March and will not now appear until Frankfurt in September. All this leads me to think the new A6/A7 (as it will rely heavily on much of the same technology as the A8) is unlikely to arrive in Europe until 2018 and therefore the US may not see it until 2019.

The A6 has just had its mid-term facelift so there will be a good 3 years more life in it before it is regarded as being old.

A year or so ago they said the 2016 MMI would get an updated operating system and the ability to update maps with your own downloads from the Internet. Any news on this?

(Was surprised today to find that the dealer is no longer charging labor to update the maps on my 2012...only the software. But have been spoiled by the low cost and frequent updates for my Garmins.)

The OS in my 2016 S6 looks pretty much identical to what I remember from my test drive of a 2015 A6, aside from the maps in the dash, obviously.

It does have the option for OTA updates though. None available yet.

Certainly here in the UK if you take the Tech Pack option on a facelift car (which gives you the HDD Navigation and Audi Connect with LTE/4G) then you get 5 free map updates (one every 6 months) which are either downloaded OTA via Audi Connect or can be downloaded via MyAudi on the website and then transferred via an SD Card. Not sure what AoA offers on this.

I'm pretty sure it's the same. When I signed up for my.audi.com it told me I was eligible for 5 updates, one every 6 months. It's worded in such a way that you can't cheat and only install every other one to get the free updates longer.
