I am not sure I believe that. I guess I'm lucky. My dealer will let me provide my own parts. So I use ceramic pads from Rock Auto. Currently I have 30K on front and 50K on rear and at my last state inspection they said I have 50% left on both.

It was suggested in another thread that the more than average rear pad wear could be from using the ACC cruise control.
