I shopped for 2 months and finally decided on the A6 Prestige and the black headliner was one of the must have options. I like it much better. I got the Phantom Black Pearl with black interior and the black cloth headliner really finishes it off nicely. My wife first thought it would make the car too dark, but once she saw it, there was no going back.

The black headliner for me was a must. It's just a cloth material I assume that the standard headliner is made out of. Not sure how to link pics from my iPhone, but if you go to my albums I have several black interior/black headliner pics in there.

  • Will not show dirt like the light headliner - especially around the sun visors
  • It does make the interior feel a little closer, but I actually like that, especially since the A6 interior is as large as it is. It does not feel small at all.
  • It looks "better integrated" to me, especially where the A-pillars meet the dash. It is essentially the same color as the dash (really more of a dark slate, not pure black).
  • An unexpected benefit for me was when driving on bright days I do not squint at all. With my A4, even with the sun visor down, I would sometimes find myself squinting on bright days - very tiring if you are on a long drive.
Net, I would pick it 100 times out of 100 if I had another chance.

+1. It works especially well with the Nougat interior. I personally like the sportier, more cocoon like feel it provides.

Gotta agree there, the black headliner with nougat is amazing. The car just swallows you.

Default Black Headliner in Canada?

Apparently you guys can get the black headliner as a no cost option in the US. Does anyone know if you can get it in Canada? In Canada, we have 2 levels of trim, base and premium, and there is an S-line package option ($2300) that includes the black headliner. The configurator has no mention of getting a black headliner separately. Is this only available to be ordered by the dealer or is on the US order forms (or configurator)?

It's available on the configurator in the US and in the order guide.
