I used a hard wire kit from www.safe-n-sound1.com on my DD.
I found them through a eBay auction and went to their site to see what their retail prices were before bidding. While I was on their site, I entered a monthly drawing and won. www.safe-n-sound1.com/Free%20GiveAway.html
The kit was all inclusive and their kits run from under $10 to under $20. They have kits for all the popular radar detectors. I keep the original power supply as a backup or for use in a different car.

My apologies for poor markings on the pictures, but with 2 kids and a wife traveling constantly, not much time left for anything.
I think a picture is worth a 1000 words. Nine pictures are worth even more
First I tucked the V1 phone wire under the black headliner from the radar detector side to the driver’s side. You will have to pull headliner a little with a small screwdriver. And then just follow the dashed markings in the pictures. I simply tucked the wire under the weather stripping along the door opening.
To get access to the fuse box, pry open the fuse box cover with a flat head screwdriver (there is a notch on the bottom of the cover). As far as attaching the + wire to the power source, I remember I chose 40A fuse for a reason, I think that was a ignition fuse. This way V1 turns on as you start the car and turns off when you turn the car off. You can use a cleaner way to connect the + wire to the fuse, as described in the last 3 pictures, but I never bothered.
This is the same procedure as in my 2012 A6.

That's one way to do it.
Although, it should not be necessary to run the phone cable all the way down to the fuse box. In my BMW 545i, I have simply tapped into one of the wires in my front dome light. You should be able to find a diagram with the color-codes for the wires. You just need to cut the sheathing on one of the wires that turn on/off with the ignition, and use the supplied splice caps that come with your Valentine 1. Takes all of 5 minutes to do once you know which wire.
