Can 2017 Apple Car Play Be Retrofitted to 2016?
According to the Audi website the 2017 A6 now has "Audi smartphone interface." According to the description "this feature enables Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto integration, enabling access to your compatible phone’s features, such as navigation, telephone, music and select third-party apps, and can be controlled through the Audi MMI® interface, your voice or steering wheel controls." Does anyone know if this can be retrofit to the 2016 C7?

There is no update path from Audi to integrate Car Play to the MMI. I saw there was a third party company that announced they would have a solution last year but they went dark and it never happened.

Do you think that also applies to the 2016 C7 with the already upgraded MMI?

The full MIB2 system supports Car Play and will likely be available in the new C8. Audi is not known for providing rertofits to earlier systems so I would guess they will not offer a Car Play path for earlier models. Nothing has been announced so your guess is as good as mine.

You would need to identify what components are different. I would be very surprised if Audi offered up that information. But once you know what components need to be changed I'm sure it could be done. The price and availability of those components will be the limiting factor.

I think what radarguy was really trying to get at is....If the 2017 A6/S6/A7/S7 now gets CarPlay and Android Auto why can't we get that software in our 2016 cars. The hardware is the same in both model years, it is just a different software pack.
I have asked Audi this question and they just say to talk to your dealer. The people at the online chat at Audi know so much less then we do about our cars it isn't even worth the time to ask them anything anymore!

It's not clear that the hardware is exactly the same as the 2017 Q7/A4 and that it's only a software issue. Is there definitive reference to this?
