I suspect back a century ago, people were skeptical on cars as a replacement for horse carts. I doubt these days anyone gets into a car would stop for a moment and wonder what if the brake fails, and decides to walk instead.

After posting my prior comment I regretted it since it was worded a bit more adversarial than I intended.

I love the performance characteristics of the car. Those are some of the reasons I got the car. However in my particular use case I spend 70% of my time in heavy traffic. Not all stop and go, but too heavy for spirited driving. In those times I am looking for the car to entertain me in different ways and the nanny-tech is fun (I am a techy).

The A6 fit my desire for lots of interesting tech with good performance. I get to choose each time I get in it what car I want.

Just my take.
