After 2 weeks the dealer is still searching for a match that's inbound rather than ordering directly. There have been several matches with deliveries just a few weeks away, but none of the other dealers seem to want to give it up... I'm told there's high demand now for the innovation package. One has offered to trade it with my dealer for two Q5's, but he's not too excited about that since the Q5's sell well here.

At some point I may consider waiting for the 2013 model if it's going to be mid-summer anyway. Any thoughts on waiting for the '13? I don't suspect there will be much in the way of change (there was another post speculating/wishing for new options).

You should just order what you want and since the 13's are right around the corner, why not!

I'd would ask your dealer to actually buy the allocation not swap. I'd mention that since you are giving a little by asking for 2k over they might be OK with buying it.

Just because a dealer agreed to a swap doesn't mean it is set in stone. Like in my case, the first car I was looking into was sold at the other dealership before they were able to swap it. It happens. But if they buy the allocation the car never even makes it to the other dealership for a potential sell.

As you mentioned, if they are as in demand as they seem, asking them to do this might help. Good luck.
