Ive traded and bought many cars in a short time (i have a problem!)

ALL cars, depreciate terrible in the first year.... Japanese are no better than German, in fact they are generally worse depending on the car you bought. American cars really fall to the bottom of the barrel.

I was looking to trade my 2012 Prestige in November... LED, Sport Package, Cold Weather. I got offered $47,000 for a trade by numerous dealers. Audi only offered my $46.5. This car holds its value better than others. About 22$ off the MRSP

You cant think of $$ hit, you need to look at percentage. 20-25% in the first year is normal (again, depending on the car and the offers, rebates, etc)

I had several Acura TLs. I got 8k off the $44k car at purchase, and dealers know this when you trade. I traded one in, 16 months old, fully loaded with 25k... I was offer 27k... thats about 45% off MRSP

Either way, you'll take a hit. But I am sure if you go to an Audi dealer, they will be gentle with Q7 pricing, and you get the loyalty cash of $2k purchase or $1,500 lease.

2013 Q7 Loyalty Program is same as A6/A7; $1500 for purchase OR lease.

*Offer only available for current Audi owners, household members and lessees with a model year 2001 or newer Audi vehicle that are purchasing or leasing a new 2013 Audi vehicle. Excludes R8 vehicles.

We briefly thought about the Q7 but that really doesn't give us much more room than what we already have with the MDX.

I'm going to chalk up my "Hey, I'm going to sell my A6." moment of craziness to the fact that I was out of my mind upon hearing the news of twins. I think folks are generally right that I'd be crazy to sell in the first year. I think what we're going to do is keep both cars, see what we need, and go from there. I have no doubt that we'll need a bigger car at some point...I just really hope it's not a minivan. Although everyone I talk to said they were dreading getting one too and it's been one of the best purchases they've done.

One thing that I have done is only use CarMax or like dealer to give me an idea of what my trade is worth.

However, especially since you're trading in such an high dollar car, you have to remember the tax break you get for the trade in.

For example:

New car purchase is $50K
Trade in is $45K
Taxable amount is $5K

New car tax = $3250 (TX = 6.5%)
Trade in tax on $5K = $325
Savings - about $3K

So make sure if you get cash, you do the math to see the it covers the tax savings.

Not in California here you pay the whole thing regardless if you trade in a car of not.

Yup. Audi changed the Loyalty amounts for 2013. Purch amt went down $500 and lease amt went up $500 so they were the same at $1500 for many of the models.
