Does it cost extra or save changing 20" rims to 19"

Uh, yes. 20" tires would be a bit loose on 19" wheels. You could try it but off the line performance and handling would definitely be reduced - as in none.

I don't think the price of tires is what the OP is concerned about. He may want the 19" because of the better ride on lousy roads due to increased rubber. Or maybe he likes the design of the 19's better. Or maybe he can come back to this thread he started and enlighten us.

I guess I am fortunate in Atlanta, but I have taken my car to NYC and I guess I can understand, I also keep my tires over n flayed by at least 4-6 PSI to help as well, I would thin the right pothole would be an issue regardless of 19 or 20 inch wheels. I do find it odd that the 19 inch size Audi uses is so much more than the 20 inch size. I thought is was an error, but checked several tire sellers and all had same pattern.

My audi dealer has a car that is mostly what I want. It has 20" wheel and I'd like to have 19". The difference in price is $800 on the audi site.
Can they replace it with 19" wheels instead and if they can...if this going to cost me extra or can I get another ~$800 off for going with the 19" instead? Please advice. Thanks.

yep - you would be surprised at the difference, On my Volvo, with 18" wheels and low profile tires that provided similar sidewall height to the 20" Audi's I had 4 blowouts from potholes.
When I switched to 17" wheels with tires offering sidewall height like the 19" Audis do, no more blowouts
BTW - to the OP, I also have a set of 19" OEM Tires and Wheels - brand new for sale. the Tires were only on the car from Germany to the US. the wheels were used about 1000 miles and are in flawless condition. If interested, PM me,
