I have a 2012 Audi A6 with only 45k km on it. I have an intermittent fault where the steering warning light goes on and the steering goes heavy. I was told that it's a fault with the electric motor on the Power Steering Rack. The problem is that the motor itself cannot be replaced and I would apparently need to replace the Power Steering Rack it self, which costs close to $3000 and takes a few weeks to get.
Has anybody experienced this problem? Is there an alternative solution? Is there a way to detach the electric motor from the rack to replace or even repair it?
Thanks thespeed. I did have a look at a few threads but none seem to fit my problem exactly. My power steering is not notchy, it either works perfectly or not at all until I stop the car and start it back up. I'll try to get the error code from my mechanic, but it had to do with intermittent failure of the electric motor in the steering rack...
I had a same problem about 1 year ago and covered with warranty. I heard noise when turn steering wheel then intermittent multiple warning lights but OK to drive to dealer.
My 2012 A6 just started with these exact symptoms for the last month. Were you able to resolve the issue and how?

My 2012 A6 just started with these exact symptoms for the last month. Were you able to resolve the issue and how?
Mine seems to be triggered by cold weather. I've experienced it once or twice since my original post (all good since mid-january). I've decided to report the repair for another year, hoping it will not happen too often and/or someone finds a better solution than replacing the steering column.
Can anyone help me with this error code. And if anyone know whats an issue where is the fault. Is it steering rack or anyother part which is related to steering rack.

i am going through the same issue. you can buy a steering rack for way cheaper online than the 3000 that audi charges and take it to a mechanic that can do it and has the necessary computer to reset it. the only thing is it won;t be covered by warranty. the work and part.
