Agree that perhaps Audi could have mechanism similar to other makes for fuel door opening and, that Xpel is a bit pricey. But, consider it as an insurance of sorts....for less than 2.5% of your cars price you get protection against most 'dings', makes it easy to keep clean (especially if covered with Opticoat, etc.

I had the similar problem on my 2016 Q3 for awhile now. Since the car door lock at 10 mph, I never bother manually locking the doors. For 2 months or so now, the gas door would not open when I press it. I have to use the key fob to unlock the doors.
What is the easiest and cheapest fix?

I had the same problem on mine, The dealer said it was a known problem and replaced everything under warranty. Even the emergency release did not work

Several weeks ago, before opening the door if I press unlock, the gas door unlock. Now, I need to press lock then unlock. Or, I need to use the key fob to unlock the gas door. Since I'm out of warranty, I appreciate any help on how to fix or what needs to replaced. I'm sure the dealer would not tell me unless if I bring my car there.

I finally got fed up opening the trunk and pulling the red release every time and called the dealer today. I asked if covered under warranty and they said yes.... even though my car is 2015 and under no warranty..... Going in on Friday.

Update on my gas door situation.
just a few days ago, I had to lock them unlock my door before getting out if the drivers seat. Now this doesn't work anymore. I had to use the key fob to unlock my gas door. I called the dealer and explained what happened and told them it's all over the Internet. He said he never heard of this problem, and told me to take the car in. Since I'm out of warranty, it'll cost $189 to diagnose the problem.

Ive replaced the release motor on my 2012 A6 twice now.....the motor was about $40 and took my about 20 minutes to replace, just a couple of screws holding it in there.
A quick search shows one for a Q3 at about $25:

Here is the writeup I used. Its from the Q7 forum, but it looks like they are all the same. just pull out the rubber piece and the actuator is right there.
