My observations..
On the highway, if kept at a reasonable, under 65 mph, 8th gear, steady speed, the A6 3.0 can provide mpg in the high 20's.
On average city/suburban surface streets, it drops precipitously to around 19-20 mpg. Stop and go traffic is even worse.
If you are aggressive with the accelerator, the car gobbles gas like a drunken saior as the supercharger stretches it's legs.
The DIS mpg readout is at least 5% too high when measured against actual fill-up miles divided by gallons consumption.
30 mpg highway driving on the DIS is probably around 28 mpg in reality. Still pretty good.
With 40/60 highway/street suburban driving, I'm averaging a real 21-22 mpg overall - about 1.5 mpg less than my '09 A4 3.2 and about 3.5 mpg more than my wife's '02 allroad 2.7t twin turbo. I do get playful with the driving occasionally but no heavy foot most of the time.

In town I'll get about the same 20mpg as everyone else. Stop and go kills the mpg ( as it does it in most cars)

If I did not take into consideration of stop and go traffic light, I got 32 MPG.. traffic lights took 1.5 from it.. I dont recall my old A4 with 2.0T can achieve this mpg.. really loving the A6!

I am not surprised that using cruise control people are getting 30+ although its rated like 28 or so on the highway....
For reference my Genesis 4.6L V8 easily gives me 28 although its rated at 25 on highway..Considering its got 400HP its fantastic... I have even seen 31 at times...
If anything it shows how much tech has improved due to competition and necessity...
Consumer always rules !!

I purchased my car and drove it 600 miles home. I got 28.4 mpg via the trip computer driving 70 to 75 mph for most of the trip. I expect it to get better after the engine is broken in.

I've only filled up 3 times on my 3.0 with 40k on it, but my average is in the low 20's. My old Passat Fourmotion with the 3.6 averaged 24. I thought this would be about the same.

Hmmm some fuzy math going on here, lol. 40000 miles/3 fill-ups is about 13000 miles per tank at 20mpg, that's alot gallons, more than the tank can hold I think. LOL
