Default iPhone 5 Video / DVD Audio

New Audi owner (2012). Sorry if this is old news, but i can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I've read in all the forums about using the MMI.

- can the dash CD player DVD-Audio?
- can the MMI play a video from iPhone 5? I'm able to get cover flow and audio to come into the car, but for some reason video is not coming through?

My MMI version is K0566_5

Thanks for your help.

It's been reported that the DVD player can play certain DVD-A audio discs but not all.

The AMI/Lightning adapter for the iPhone 5 cannot pass video using either the blue or red grommet cable. You can copy video files to an SDHC card that will play through the MMI, however.

The in dash DVD player will not play back the lossless layer of DVD-A discs but some DVD-A discs also contain a Dolby Digital layer and that will play back.

Thank you for your help. I've tried both and happy to know I'm not retarded, and that my car isn't a lemon.

Hopefully an apple update will allow video transmission. Through lightning. Techies have said its possible with the hardware, programming just hasn't been released

Is there an MMI cable that supports Lighting? (ie: iPhone 5?) I was visiting an Audi mechanic-friend of mine who said there wasn't one released yet.

Sad that it doesn't support video output. Basically a perfect long distance cruise set up if it did.

Just the blue or red cable with Apple lightning adapter support the iPhone 5 for audio only. No direct cable that would support video is available.

Keep in mind the no video with an iPhone 5 & adaptor is due to the Apple lightning adaptor (at least).

See

http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD...30-pin-adapter

Specifically "Video output not supported." listed under features (and on the box). I guess it's a limitation of the substantial amount of processing done within the adaptor??

Until Audi bring out a direct lightning cable, it looks like we are stuck.

It is better to get this adapter: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD...-02-m?fnode=45

It's not going to give you video, but given the erratic nature of a cars movements, it is more forgiving to movement.

Yep, clearly it's the adapter. Obviously Lightning can output video, since it does output to HDMI.

We have a few hopes:
1 - Audi Lighting Grommet
2 - Apple Lightning 30 pin Adapter with Video
3 - Audi HDMI Grommet
