I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I re-tightened the gas cap and the light went out within 2 days.
I am quite "aware" of my car and notice things that are different in day to day driving. There was absolutely nothing noticeably different so at this time I am just thinking gas cap.
Where our 2 stories are different is my dealer said this might be what it is but bring the car in and we will check it out.

yeah its been a day, i drove about 10 miles yesterday and at the end of the day the light was still on, i'll wait and see what happens during the weekend, if it still stays on I will have to make another trip to the dealership, which is about an hour and a half away...
i havent notice anything different about the car as well, nor do i smell anything different, I'm just hoping it was the gas issue and it will go away

so i took the car back in service yet again...
dealer scan the code and said there was a problem with the fuel pressure sensor, so they replace that and everything seems good now
i really hope this is the end of all the mishaps on this car, i love my A6, but i have so many other things to do then to visit my dealership every single week..
pray this is the end of it!!!
case close.
