Default OEM Wheel Swap and Offset

Can someone please offer me a sanity check. I want to replace my 20" wheels on my 2012 A6 with Audi OEM 19" S-Line wheels - known as "Peelers". There's a 2mm offset difference; currently ET45 and Peelers are ET43. Both are 8.5. For whatever reason, the Audi service folks won't confirm the fit and the compatibility checker I used says they are NOT compatible. No way right?? They must fit. Why the heck are the Audi service techs saying they don't know until they try to put them on? How can they not know? What am I missing? I plan to hold onto the 20"s if anyone was wondering.

They should fit. I installed the OEM 19" Titanium 5-spoke wheels off of an S4 that are also ET43 and 8.5" wide. It will look tight with very little clearance over the huge brakes but more of an optical illusion.

To answer your question above: Rim size/width and ET are important, but the fitments on some of these wheels are so tight with regard to the calipers that the shape of the spoke (how they curve into the wheels) can also impact a lot. On the C5A6 with HP2 calipers, this was a known "must check for" item - which could only be done by mounting a wheel and seeing if it would fit, and even then it could change depending on how much thickness was left on your brake pads.

With regard to the question of ET - I have seen ETs as low as 29 on the A6, so I expect those wheels will fit fone. I am running ET 38 right now with no issues.

The 19" ET43 peelers you mention most likely come from the B8S4 (B8S5 has ET35 peelers) whose brakes are not any smaller than the C7A6 (and quite possibly the same). Therefore the peelers should work fine.

You could also go with the B8S5 peelers which will push the wheel outwards by 8mm (compared to ET43), providing additional clearance for the spokes as well as give a more aggressive stance.

Stock 20" A6 wheels are ET45 (same width as S4/S5 at 8.5"). See my wheel page for info.

Correction: S5 peelers are 19x9 ET33

Oops yes, you're correct. Where'd you find that, on my page? :P

So the S5 peelers will be 10mm outward compared to the S4 peelers.

likely yes. I have B8S5 split 5 spokes and they are flush to the car, much better looking!

Sorry to hijack the thread. I am planning on getting a 2013 A6 Prestige with 20 inch sports pack. I want to dealer swap or later or swap in 19 inch wheels. Will this be a problem or easily doable?

Great "wheel" link - nice job. Appreciate the info. Think I'm going to pull the trigger. Then I'll have to mount the tires before someone tells me they don't fit. Hope that won't be the case.

Thanks again!

Default Depends on the dealer -

Some dealers are willing to swap prior to dlivery, but others will not (mine refused). So ask way ahead of time.

19 inch wheels are readily avaiable and its an easy swap out, but of course that necesitates puchasing 19 inch tires as well.

Why order it with the 20s if what you really want is 19s?
