When I took mine in @ 40k miles they concluded the oil consumption test and indeed it was outside tolerance. They installed a new engine. I thought it was just the rings and other parts to rebuild but they showed me the paperwork and installed a brand new engine. Have driven 2000 miles and so far no oil consumption.

Wow a new engine? That's crazy. I just got the first part of the test done which got some baseline numbers and also replaced a few things. I don't have the repair order on me but there were 3-4 things that were replaced. Was told to go straight back to the dealership after 3k miles or the oil light comes on again, which ever occurs first.

They did note that there was abnormal scoring inside the cylinder walls which is why they went the "new engine" route. I think they may have just replaced the block with a new one... I guess "new engine" could be interpreted different ways but they said "Audi sent a brand new engine from the factory". My drop in gas mileage proves something new as I'm getting 14.9 MPG where I usually got 18.8 mixed. It's slowly getting higher with each tank.

So finally after driving the car for the required 3k miles I brought the car back so they could test the oil. Audi tech told me that my oil consumption is considered "normal." When I asked him how much oil I was actually consuming he said 1.9 quarts per 10k miles which was well within normal. So basically I'm using 1QT per 5k miles, according to the dealership. Does this sound weird at all?

It's not that weird, but I would strongly suggest you keep all your records. If the consumption gets worse, bring it back and call AoA.

I doesn't sound weird to me either. I would buy a dip stick and check/top off every 2,000 miles when refueling.

Default Oil consumption?

Brought the car in to get topped off, was told it was normal. Dealership mistakenly sent me an email saying I needed to bring my car in for service so I brought my car in on 08/19/2014 at 21k miles and they went ahead and just performed the 25k service. Last night I got the add oil message again at 24.5k so brought the car in this AM for a top off again.

So it seems that I'm burning oil about every 4k miles. They will be performing the oil consumption test on Thursday. Keeping my fingers crossed...
Have 2014 3.0T with 19K. Have not added any oil since new
great motor and although I drive it hard, still manage 28 mpg on the road and 21 around town. Why buy the diesel?
