Not sure if you mean "oil consumption" boat or "leaking coolant" boat. I dropped off my A6 today and they confirmed the coolant leak and said it was the water pump. The car is a CPO 2018, purchased in April 2021 with only 17K miles and currently it has just19K miles. Unbelievable! To top it off, I didn't get any where with my oil consumption issue because the dealer where I purchased the car conveniently neglected to document the incident; and without documentation, the dealer where I've taken the car now won't conduct and oil consumption test because Audi corporate would only pay for the work if there is supporting documentation in the records. The service manager of the dealership that has the car now suggested I contact Audi Customer Experience about this.

I do believe water pumps fail with these engines. Looking at the service record, mine has had it replaced.

I'm not sure what it takes to start an oil consumption ticket. But I wouldn't worry about because 1) it either doesn't have an issue, ie, the selling dealer underfilled it or 2) if the oil does go down, bring it into the new dealer to top off. They did the oil change so they can then start the consumption monitoring process at that point.

The water pump, t-stat, and PCV are hit or miss on this engine. Same with motor mounts. My pump and t-stat are original at 210,000 miles. Same with the PCV. My motor mounts were replaced last summer when I had to do the timing chains.

@ElliottA6 I wonder if you have the current dealer do an oil change then track consumption to see how long and how many miles before you need them to top it off if that will help kick start the consumption test issue.

+1. Since car is CPO and presuming it is covered for another year or more, in light of fact that Elliott not sure if indeed car using oil, best just to have oil change done, ensure that level is full (read: buy an OEM dipstick) and then monitor -- no need to involve dealer/VAG yet. Best case scenario is 3,000+ miles goes by and no appreciable quantity of oil consumed. I've not read/heard of any widespread oil consumption issues with this engine.

Just got back from a round trip adventure from NW Indiana to Tampa in back. 2,300 miles in 4 days pushing a bit hard on the engine. Consumed about 1/2 - 2/3 quart of oil which happened primarily when I was pushing hard on the engine. Under normal cruising at about 85 mph the oil level did not move

At 210000 miles! This is phenomenal.

80-85 mph in the A6 with the ZF 8 speed trans = approx 2,000 rpm so motor under very little stress and I would not expect any oil consumption. Agree, @ 210,000 miles Valpo's results are impressive. Valpo, are you sure you weren't driving my beloved 04 Acura TL that only has 190,000 miles on the clock and uses no discernable quantity of oil between changes? LOL.

Best,
Jeff

Nope had my 2012 A7. Sunday I had the cruise set at 89 MPH so the motor was pushing around 2100 but the line of left lane driving won't move over snowflakes made me push on it at 100 MPH + a bit to pass 4 - 5 cars at a time.

2300 miles in 34:22 hrs:min with an average speed of 66 MPH. 28.6 MPG on the display for the trip. Now at 212,000 miles.

Your gas mileage is similar to mine on a recent trip I did (MI to FL) -- 30 mpg on way down some 1300 miles fully loaded with 4 adults and luggage. Most of time driving between 70 and 80 with some slower stints where lots of traffic or left lane bandits. It is amazing how quickly the car gets up to 90+ mph on the highway when you put your foot into it. Reminds me of a pre-emission controlled small American small (Chevy or Olds 350 to be precise).

My other car, 2015 Kia Soul, is like this. Doesn't use oil except the twice a year when I make the trip to PS, CA and back - about 2,200 miles each way. Going thru the mountains has the automatic in that car constantly shifting from 6th to 4th and the higher RPMs are good for a quart each direction. Last two times have been in A6, and I did use 1/2 quart each time, but haven't had the car long enough to know if it's unique to that trip.
