Starting a new thread with more generic title to get more hits.
I have an Escort 9500i and hard-wire kit that I would like to install. All hard-wire installations should be similar whether Escort or V1, etc. I need some help from anyone who has diagrams or information about how to take apart the center console or pillars in the car to get to the cigarette lighter and run the wire up to the rearview mirror.
In my previous car I tapped into the cigarette lighter in the console to get the proper power and on/off from the ACC. Where are you placing your mute buttons?
I know some people talk about wiring into the rearview mirror or fuse box, but those methods can void Audi electrical warranties real quick. Tapping into the cigarette lighter is the only approved method I know of that will not cause warranty issues. Escort for one, warranties this method when connected with their hard-wire kit.

Did you ever get this figured out? I just bought an A6 and am trying to figure out where to mount my V1 and get power. Ran it from the mirror in my 370z but would prefer to avoid any warranty issues. I'd appreciate learning anything you have found out.

You didn't get any hits before because your reasoning doesn't make sense. Whatever Escort "warrants" is totally useless, you either have 12 volts and a ground or you don't. It doesn't matter zip where you get it to either the car or the RD. Using switched, fused power makes more sense but the RD doesn't know the difference.
As far a Audi voiding a warranty because you tapped into the fuse box or RW mirror, what possible difference do you see in applying that to a cig lighter?
Either use the fuse box or the mirror or get a battery powered RD.

What doesn't make sense is such an unhelpful nasty reply. If you don't have anything helpful say then move to the next thread.
I ran a hardwire up to the mirror when I had a windshield replaced. I wired into the fusebox and ran the wire up through hte dash then had a windshield guys come out to my driveway and when they took out the cracked windshield, I took that oportunity to run the wire in a groove behind the windshield weatherstripping and over to the rearview mirror where it then joined dwith some other wires going to the mirror. then had the cat5 connection there to plug into the radar detctor which would be mounted on the mirrow with velcro.
worked perfectly. But I waited until a had a cracked winshield to do this.

I agree that the tone of PJs post was unnecessarily rude, but he does have a good point: while the Escort warranty may well cover the RD itself, it doesn't help with the Audi warranty issue, which was the OPs concern. Tapping into the cig lighter is no safer than tapping in to the fusebox or anywhere else from a warranty standpoint. So PJs recommendation is spot on.

If that's rude, so be it, this isn't grade school.
To the OP. If you're worried about wiring the RD, which is fairly obvious, take it to a car radio shop and pay them to do it. That will get it done and they bear the burden of the work.

I found this forum post which might help. I assume the A6 is the same. Anyone been able to pull down the dash under the steering wheel? I want to mount my Escort mute button.
