Default Rear sunshade issue. Help?

So i went into car settings then vehicle settings and set my rear windscreen sun shade to auto on. Isnt that suppose to make the read sun shade go up when i take the car off automatically and make it come down when i turn the car on? That doesnt happen despite me setting it to on. Am i doing something wrong?

Auto lowers the sunshade when you're reversing and then raises it again once you're moving forward. The shade has to be up initially for it to function. If you've lowered it yourself, it will stay down until you raise it again.

I'm having a problem with my sunshade as well ... I don't have one! I wish I did, you are lucky. I miss the rear and side sunshades in my last BMW. and yes, it would automatically lower it in reverse if it was already up.

The sunshade option is a good one for the 2013. My only gripe is, I wish the doors had power shades. My buddy had a 7 series and he has the full 5 peice power option. Of course I assume the A8 has that as well. I think I will be leaving the shades down in the spring summer as I like the windows down. They add a ton of privacy though when up.

Thanks for all your prompt responses everyone. Now i understand what its for. I agree that the rear side shades would have been so much more convenient and easy to use had they been powered.

I had no idea the side shades were manual, that sucks. Yeah, the 7 has all auto shades, nice touch but then again, the BMW is well over $100k nicely appointed

This is what I do. My 7 year old daughter sits in the back and she loves not having the sun in her eyes and it also helps keep the interior cool.
