With the 6-speed Tiptronic I had on my 2010 A6 Audi stated “The transmission automatically detects the car’s driving behavior and adapts its gearshift strategy to the conditions and the driver’s driving style.” Does this apply to the 8-speed Tiptronic as well? If so, then perhaps after a period of aggressive driving (well, more aggressive than my old fart style) the Tiptronic might "learn" the OP’s driving style and in effect offer something that is between D as it comes from the factory and S – just a thought.

It works in conjunction with the Start/Stop system and alters the shift points for the 8-speed and the throttle mapping. Also reduces the assist for the power steering and cycle off the A/C.

For ROW with manual gear box, it tells you when to shift with an indicator in the DIS.

It seems to work, but the car feels like a dog in that mode.

Does the "driving style" as learned by the car get mapped to an individual key, or just to a "charisma" level? In other words, if two different drivers using different keys both drive the car in a given mode, is the mode the same for both of them or does it apply the learned settings to each person depending on whose key is being used?

I don't know for sure, but I believe it is just one learned "profile", if you will. I did notice that after the first few months of driving really conservatively my Tiptronic upshifted at really low RPM's and went into 8th gear by 54 mph or so. Now that I drive a little more spiritedly it upshifts at a higher a RPM and doesn’t go into 8th until about 58 mph. Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

In my 2001 and 2002 you could reset the driving style profile to default by tuning on the car (not the engine) and pressing the accelerator to the floor for a few seconds. Not sure if this is still true of current models.
