Default Sports Package or not

Hi folks. Considering a 2012 A6 Prestige and would like to ask for observations from current owners as to whether or not they're satisfied with their choice of the sports package or not. I'm considering the 18" package, have driven a test vehicle with 20" wheels and found it a bit rough on the highway with a lot of tire noise. They didn't have a tester available with 19's or 18's. Any body have a 2012 without the sports package and if so are you happy with your choice? Thanks!

I got every option but the sports package. I drove both and preferred the ride and quieter tires of the non-sport. I got the prestige though with the sport apperance which I did like. I also think the sport package tires wear out quicker and are more expensive to replace. They also aren't as durable if you have lots of pot holes in your area. I also liked the look of the prestige wheels a lot. Not as nice looking as the 20" but not worth the trade offs for me.

From a limited time, I found the 18" ride and sports package to be a smooth ride.

I did not order any of the sport packages.

I never fell in love with any of the wheels that were offered. I also like the looks of the non sport steering wheel better.

In person, the standard 18" Prestige wheels look very nice!

I think the car rides very smooth and is pretty quiet with the non sport package.

The 18" sport package comes with all season tires. So, they should be quieter and ride better than the 20's. From what you said, it sounds like the perfect package for you.

It really depends on your driving style, whats more important to you, ride comfort or handling? Not that there is that much difference between the 18" sport package and the 18" non SP. The 19" and the 20" wears summer tires, so the difference is more noticable. I test drove the 18" SP and non-SP package and though the 18" non-SP handle well enough. I really dont push my car around corners that much and like the smoother ride becuase the roads in my area are pretty bad.

I test drove 18 without sport, 18 with sport, 19 with sport and 20 with sport. I like the lower stance and steering wheel, and I can't stand the road noise from 19 and 20 (from the performance tires) so I got the 18 with sport, which I love. However, I'm pretty sure, down the road, I'll get a set of 19 with all season tires.

For those concerned about potholes, here are some calculations I did on sidewall height:

Standard tire 245/45 is 4.34"
18" Sport package 255/45 is 4.51"
19" Sport package 255/40 is 4.01"
20" Sport package 255/35 is 3.51"

I am a bit confused. How is the 18" sports package sidewall height more than that of the standard tire? If it is because of the diameter of the wheel itself, are you using the NON-Prestige wheel in your measurements? I have the Prestige, and I believe the OP is asking about the Prestige too. Thanks!

Those are prestige tire sizes. the reason why the 18" sport is taller is due to the wider tire with the same aspect ratio.

I have the 18" non-Sports model. I drove the 19" Sports model before. I think the 19" Sports model is noticeable "sportier" as I got a chance to drive it on a relatively slow windy road. I didn't notice the road noise or harshness from the 19s.

In the end I opted for a non-Sports because I planned on getting rims and lowering it anyways.

In case you're wondering, the Sports package is 10mm lower ride height.
