sounds like a failed sending unit to me - a sensor.

The coolant warning is from a sensor at the bottom of the coolant reservoir. Check to see if you actually have coolant.

The temperature gauge is from a sensor in the coolant flow of the engine. It shouldn't be in the red with a cold engine. Audi could have the sensors tied together to give you an early warning of bad things to come.

What year and what engine? Some early 2012 3.0L's had thermostat and water pump problems that were corrected in later models.

You can see better info of engine temp by viewing the lap timer's oil temp but you don't state any useful information like model, year or location.

Typically if you ground the sensor it will max out the gauge, and if you disconnect the wire it will read minimum.
You could have a short to ground.

You could have a short to ground.
That short to ground could be a bad sending unit on the engine.

Good advice as the first investigatory step that many may overlook.
