Thinking about purchasing A6 2.0T
I went to an Audi dealership today to look at what is new. I am currently driving a 2006 A4 2.0T Quattro. My family has gotten bigger and I would like a bigger vehicle. I am comparing the BMW 528XI to the Audi A6 2.0T. The BMW with similar specs cost approximately $8K more. It seems that the A4 and the A6 share the same engine. The A6 weighs approximately 200lbs more. The sales person stated that because part of the car is aluminum, it drives pretty quick. Due to have the kids and its a Sunday, I didn't ask for a test drive. I would like some of your opinion on the vehicle.

I also replaced my A4 with A6. As you said, both have the same engine. As it was for the A4, it has proved to be an excellent engine for my A6.
This engine with its turbocharger provides sufficient power for all my driving conditions. It gives immediate high speed acceleration on freeway onramps and delivers enough thrust to easily pass other vehicles on the interstate.
As with the A4, gasoline consumption is outstanding and not diminished by the extra weight of the A6.
The A6 with the 2.0T engine is not a hot rod so don't expect it to be one. It is what it is and the mid size of the three engines offered for the A6 is a tough power plant to propel this fine luxury car exceptional well in a busy metropolitan city or cruising at the highest legal speeds between cities.

I faced a similar decision a few months ago. Going from a BMW 330xi with 255 HP, it was hard for me go down to 211 HP that A6 2.0T has. I drove both, but at the end decided on 3.0T and am very happy I did. The acceleration in 3.0T is effortless and silky smooth. The car will wow you every time you press the accelerator pedal. The 2.0T was adequate, but I could not justify spending that kind of money on a car with just adequate engine performance. Just my 2 cents.

2.0 Premium (2.0L 4-cyl. Turbo CVT)
2.0T Premium Quattro (2.OL 4-cyl. Turbocharger)
3.0T Premium Quattro (3.0L V5 Surpercharger)
As stated, I opted for the mid one

I drove the A6 2.0T around for a few days while my A5 was in the shop and it was ok to drive. Not as much power as I wanted, my A5 felt faster and may have been, slightly anyway. Then I got to take my A5 back to the shop so I opted to take a 3.0T A6. I ended up buying on because of that. I am getting great mpg returns on each tank that I drive respectably and that was one of my main concerns going from a 2.0T A5 to the 3.0T A6. The power is there if I need it for sure.

I have had a 2013 A6 2.0 Quattro Premium Plus since December 2012. Before that I had a 2010 A6 3.0 Premium Plus and earlier a 2006 A4 and a 2008 A4, both with the 2.0 engine.
For me the 2013 2.0 is fine. It actually idles and runs more smoothly, less perceptively than did the 2010 with the 3.0. The acceleration is adequate, especially round town and at highway speeds up to 70 (my max) I haven’t noticed any slowness – it just keeps winding.
From the Audi site:
0-60 City mpg Combined mpg Hwy mpg Weight
A4 6.3 20 24 30 3685
A6 6.7 20 24 30 3891
In addition there are many features in the A6 that put it ahead of the A4 at the P+ trim level: Standard Drive Select is a very big plus or the A6. Also, the real dual exhausts, not to mention the extra room, better ride and bigger trunk.
Anyway, as others have said try it. I have never had anyone (non-Audi buffs) in the car that had any idea it was not a V6 or V8 – the thing does scoot when you want it to. So far, I must say, fuel consumption has beena bout the same as my 2010 A6 with the 3.0.

I would strongly suggest you drive both the A6 with the base 2.0 engine and then drive the A6 with the 3.0 engine. No comparison IMO.
Now lots of folks are perfectly happy with the base engine but if you enjoy good performance, and you are investing as much as you are in the vehicle anyway, it is worth it to go for the 3.0 engine IMO

The 2.0T has a lot of low-end torque: 258 lb-ft. @ 1500 rpm, so if you normally drive with the engine below 4000 rpm, then the 2.0T is very strong to move the A6's mass. The low-end torque gives it great driveability around town and it also gets great gas mileage. My CVT has gotten 31 mpg over the past 7,000 miles with about 70% highway.
However, if you routinely rev the engine over 4,000 rpm, you will find that the torque drops off and hence there is not much top-end horsepower. The peak is 211 hp @ 4300 rpm. Ask yourself, "how often do you rev over 4,000 rpm?" If it is frequently, you should probably consider the 3.0T.
Actually, the 2.0T drives more like a diesel, with lots of low-end torque, which is where the engine spends 90% of its time, and gets great gas mileage.
