I just put the Continental DWS 255/35ZR 20's on my A6. Tire rack recommends 42 psi front and rear. The door jamb decal on the Audi says 44 front and 46 rear. Does anyone have an opinion of the right psi to go with on these?

The car manf. determines the correct pressure for tires - the tire manf can't have a good idea what the correct pressures would be for all cars the tire would fit - they can only state max pressure limits. If the size matches what the manual dictates, begin with that.
Pressures in the 40's will give you a pretty hard ride. Best will usually be in the mid/upper 30's. Check your manual and tweak from there to get the best overall feel yourself. I have Bridgestone UHP all seasons and have found around 37 psi both front and back give me the best ride/handling combination. You may find something else to be best for you on the DWS but it will likely be close to that.
