I've had the Sirius traffic in the near past without the radio service too. Canceled it since I stopped traveling

What they may have meant is that you can't have separate accounts, radio being one and traffic the other. They don't have the ability to deal with them separately, so if you're halfway through your radio 'year' and add traffic, the whole thing starts over.

Even though they provide satellite radio, I think their business model is using analog computers.

So, my Q5 has two IDs, one for radio and one for traffic, both in my name. I should get my A6 in March and don't plan to continue radio, just traffic. The radio is lifetime and that can't be transferred to a new ID as far as I know. But if I call them and ask to transfer the remaining time from the traffic subscription (another 2 years if I recall correctly) to the new ID, that should work based on what you guys are saying?

That may be so, but none of the 5 people I talked to about it seemed to know they could do that. Unless you're talking about two vehicles, one with radio the other traffic.

Just reporting what I have first hand knowledge of.
