To run vagcom or the alternative software is all I need to do is buy an elm v1.3+ compatible bluetooth adapter from amazon for like $30?
I really want to disable the VIM prompts for dvd, wifi, data, google earth, phones, omg I get like 5-6 every time I start the car its so stupid
Also the gauge sweep would be nice

Think it uses its own software so unlikely to give the functionality offered by VagCom or work with the VagCom software. Even if it did work with VagCom software, morally it would be very wrong to use it with the VagCom software and for them to get no money. To make life easy VagCom software is a free download on the basis that you use it with one of their cables. If you use it with a different cable then you are basically in breach of their licence and you would also get no support or recall should something go wrong and your car then fails to work

I have never heard of a $30 cable working on any Audi past 2012. The VCDS cable is active and therefore contains components other than a piece of copper.

I am not talking about a cable, but those Bluetooth modules that communicate to the OBD2 bus. I think clarisa is one app that uses that and has a vagcom type app that does the same thing for like $10. Well almost same thing some limited functionality.

Carista requires a v1.4 adapter, BT for Android, WiFi for iOS. You have to buy the pro version so the total cost is actually $40-50. You're limited in what you can do though, Carista will not allow you to enable VIM or do any other "dangerous" things, just make comfort tweaks like rolling down the windows with the remote.
