Fair point, Snag. Coming from a C5 to the C7, there is MUCH more that can be done with the Vag-Com on the C7, and also more ability to get into trouble.

At the risk of sounding like the forum highway safety watchdog, why does anyone want video in motion?

Certainly you're not watching movies when you are driving right?

Are you trying to entertain your kids?

Video for passengers or for driver to listen (only) to music videos/concerts while driving. Since it's illegal in most states to have front seat video display while driving due to distraction, obviously one must use common sense with VIM. When I listen to music videos on the go, I ignore the picture. Usually, if a music video is playing, I have the MMI screen set to Nav anyway and just listen to the audio. Ergo, no additional distraction or law breaking.

Ok, a buddy has lent me his VAG-COM HEX + CAN. Is this the one I need? Also, I unfortunately only have a MAC so I have to find a friend with a windows lap top

Once I install the software, can someone point me to a "how to" list to do it?

Thanks all,
Shawn

Yes, that is the cable. Do you have VMWare Fusion or Parallels or Bootcamp on your Mac? You can install Windows there and use that for the VAG software...it's what I do

I Googled "Audi VIM" and came up with this URL faster than you could type your post request.

http://trick77.com/tools/mmi3g_vimcode.php

The cable should be HEX-USB+CAN if the laptop has a USB connector.

Who's in Norther VA and might be able to help me out with this? I'm live in Chantilly, VA. What can be enabled on 2012 A6 without voiding the warranty or drawing the ire of the dealerships?

If you search the forum, you'll come up with all the popular mods that don't create issues with most dealers.

The most popular (well documented and safe) mods that shouldn't create dealer issues:

- Gauge needle test sweep on start (very cool visual)
- Remote Keyfob control of windows and sunroof operation (a must mod)
- DIS Gear display in D and S modes (another must mod)
- Video in Motion (VIM) that allows playing while car is moving (not legal in most states so have to use common sense)
- DRL brightness adjust with headlights on (alleviates some/all dimming of the DRL)
- Hidden Menu with lap timer option (there a caution on this one; selecting "boot loader" menu option will screw up your car)
- Not a mod, but Vag-Com has ability to scan all car systems for faults (very helpful to diagnose a problem before going to the dealer); very nice if you own the Ross-Tech cable

There are others, some useful, some not. Novices must be careful and should not fool around with making unproven/undocumented changes.
