In Europe (at least but maybe it is different in the US) it is simple, you just don't activate it with the switch in the centre console. Not sure what you mean by an ant hill activating it, it should only activate when the car is stationary and you have applied significant pressure to the footbrake.

I park on a slight incline in front of my house, so it engages automatically nearly every time. I have yet to touch the parking brake when I start up and go. When I put it in gear and drive off, it disengages automatically. Is that not the behavior you experience?

^ ^ Well, I feel a bit dumb but not sure lol. The first time it happened I didn't realize it was on and when I tried to drive off the car felt kind of "stuck". I noticed the light was on and manually shut it off. have always just shut it off since then. i'll try driving off and see what happens.

Remember the parking brake is more important on our vehicles too as we have a DSG transmission. Standard Automatics will leave the car in gear when the engine is shut down. DSG Trannys are a bit different and are more like a Manual Tranny. I am sure all of you have been at a stop light on a hill and were surprised when the car rolled back when you pulled your foot off the brake to go! Normally the car will engage the brakes to counter act this...sometimes however.......

Also when the car is manoeuvring and has been in reverse so camera is activated the auto brake does not activate. Can cause an issues if a passenger goes to get out of the vehicle and you take your foot off the brake pedal!

Hi, I found out that with OBDEleven adapter I could turn off the automatic parking brake, as well as do some other modifications (like not turning off the engine when in P and opening a door, super annoying. I bet other OBD adapters can do it too, but this one had good UI.
