I have my oem black optics wheels that I had powder coated to match my car and am in need of winter tires for them. Right now everyone is suggesting Continental ExtremeContact DWS06, yet I dont see them in 255/40/20. So what are you folks who live in the snow belts doing as far as oem fitment ?

Don't live in the north at all, so don't know if this applies. But maybe try going a bit wider with a smaller aspect ratio, like 265/35/20. Or you can stay same but wider at 265/40/20 -- should have minimal impact on perceived odometer speed relative to real speed. There was a tool I came across before to help; I'll see if I can find it.

For winter, you want a slightly narrower footprint, or same. In snow you want to sink to the pavement if possible, not float on top of the snow. The wider the tire the less pounds per square inch.
The DWS06 used to be available, very odd, looking at TireRack many tires I had my eye on are no longer listed in the size you spec'd out. And tires have gone up considerably. I guess the rubber shortage they were talking about has come to fruition, possibly tire makers are cutting slow selling sizes as a result? This is depressing.
