'00 2.8 Avant: chirp, warble sound related to accel.?
Greetings all!
First off, I dutifully did a search and found that chirping references were almost exclusively related to turbo-equipped models...
On Friday night (and into the weekend) I noticed the sound mentioned in the subject line: a chirp/warble that seems to come from the passenger side of the car and is most noticeable when the car is moving and I let up on the accelerator. You can also hear the noise change in pitch when you start to accelerate after coasting. Car does not make the noise when in park and the engine revved. Any help in advance of my trip to the shop will be greatly appreciated!
Greg
P.S. noise is not blower-related...audible w/ fan off...

Could it be the brake dust shield scraping the rotor?
they are cheap plastic, and sometimes they come into contact with the rotor (not sure why). Not sure if that could be it, since it makes more of a scraping sound. However, it is definitely speed related, and mostly audible at lower speeds.
Simple fix, just push it back.

some more info...
Thanks to all who have responded so far!
Regarding the change in pitch when accelerating after coasting: the change occurs as soon as you start to accelerate (so I'm moving at essentially the same speed) and you would think the brake dust shield rubbing would slowly increase as speed increased...
