00 A6 4.2 Low/rough idle. I posted this on the engine forum, but nobody answered :(
My 4.2 A6 has had a low idle for some months now. Car idles around 490 rpm, and only goes up to around 600 rpm with A/C on.Throughout the rest of the RPM range, car does fine and has no lack of power. Idle also seems rough, i.e seems like it "chugs" a bit. Car also has a loud ticking noise coming from the engine. Sounds like it is emanating form the rear and front (which is why I assume it is the tensioners,) and a tapping can be felt with a hand on the intake manifold. Any suggestions? This is really starting to give me a bad feeling....Thnx to all in advance.

You need to do basic doagnosis, sorry
No known issues.
Check mixture, spark at each cyl, injectors, vacuum leaks, ....
Air/idle stabilizer? Or is that entirely taken over by the ICU now?

No CEL. I took her to Audi and they pulled a MAF code and an O2 sensor code (pre-cat)
But they still weren't sure if that was what the prob was. And I think the MAF code was my fault( I forgot to plug it back in before starting car, after doing some work in the engine bay.)
