Hello Everyone,
I am still dealing with the mess I made troubleshooting a relay switch/ignition switch. Big Thanks to JCMan for helping out getting this issue resolved!!! Now i am troubleshooting an airbag light.
Audi A6 2000 ATQ Avant 2.8L
During the process of taking the steering wheel off, I pinched one of the screws that connect the airbag to the steering wheel. Tried everything, and had not choice but yank the air page out of its place only from one side. in the process I broke the metal housing that is connected to the steering wheel.
I order a new steering wheel and the air bag is back in place. but now the light won't turn off error code 00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95) Resistance too High/low
I cleared the codes but it keeps on coming back as soon as I clear it.
Please help!!!

sorry i cant help with this particular issue , all i can tell you is be very very carefull. Airbags can be extremely dangerous.especially when playing with ignitor circuits.
this is one are i would NOT play with.

Hijack! I am chasing a similar problem in my boxster 986. Suddenly i got a airbag driver failure (code 41, proprietary). Code would not clear with PST2. I took the column apart, cleaned every contact (in/out of clockspring), re-assembled, and the light turned off. Stayed off several weeks, btu came back on a few days ago.
Yesterday i swapped in a new/used clock-spring. I need to get somewhere with a PST2 to find out if this fixed it, but I am a bit concerned because:
1. the error became intermittent
2. I took apart the old clock-spring and saw nothing wrong. I also toned it. The two traces/wires that go to the airbag unit both toned to around 0.6-0.7 ohms, and they appear to be mostly shorted together (redundancy?). The "new" one is mostly the same, but about 0.4 ohms.
Could that small difference cause the problem?
Where does a small resistance generally come from? Dying but hard to see crimp in one connector or the others?
Might my problem be elsewhere?

Update! Bad news/good news. When i got my paws on a PST2 lat night, i found out why i was so puzzled. My clockspring is and was good. The code is for the passenger seatbelt latch, a known issue and not terribly important ( everything works, replace latch). So what i had was a surprising coincidence.
