'01 2.7T exhaust vs '02

Love the look of the exhaust on the '02 vs them being hidden on the stock '01 setup. Is it just cosmetic or is it a different setup?

Re: Same exhaust system throughout, only different outlet stubs & tips at the end of the mufflers...

and, the rear valance has the cutouts, as you saw. Otherwise, all else is the same.

Req opinion: any reason (other than sound) to go with an aftermkt exhaust ?

Have not read any "customer" comments re; perf improvements (S4 Forum) other than "butt dyno", nice sound etc. Would seem like there c/b some sig engineering issues with optimum turbo backpressure etc.
